The plan

Meeting points

We’ll be meeting at 10 AM at three stations in central London. Your day’s adventure - and which station you head to - will be shaped by what bloc you choose to join. So read about the blocs and sign up here to receive text message alerts containing vital information on the day.

Meeting time

10 AM sharp. We’ll be leaving our initial meeting points immediately, so being on time is important.

Travel

If you're coming from outside London, book your coach and train tickets now! If you are in the North you can contact manchester@climatecamp.org.uk if you want a ticket for a space on a coach. If you are near Brighton you can contact southcoast@climatecamp.org.uk or 07732 505632 to book a £6 day return ticket, leaving at 8am prompt.

Accommodation

If you need to stay over in London on Friday night, plan to stay with a friend if you can; if you can’t email london@climatecamp.org.uk and we will be happy to help out. This is an all-day event, so if you’re traveling from out of town, you should also plan to stay over on Saturday night.

What to bring

  • A pre-bought zone 1-2 travelcard, or an Oyster card (although if you have a registered card, and if you mind that your journeys are tracked on that card, you might want to consider getting an unregistered one)
  • Check the weather forecast. We’ll be outside at least some of the time so if you want to stay dry bring waterproofs and warm clothes. The Space Hijackers will be running a climate laundry, so why not bring some older clothes to swap with your fellow activists?
  • Central London is a big rip off so think about bringing your own food, water and a tenner for emergencies.
  • Bring your phone to receive text alerts (of course!). If you’ve got a fancy phone that can tweet and take photos, follow us on twitter @crudeawake and use the hashtag #crudeawake in your tweets. You can also email photos to us at crudeawakening2010@gmail.com and we’ll upload them to the online photo gallery. Although as always, be careful when taking photos and video of people taking direct action, and make sure any footage that goes public won’t get anyone in trouble later on.
  • Things to contribute to your bloc. This is entirely up to you – you can just bring yourself, as you are; or perhaps something that fits with the bloc’s theme (totally optional and totally up to you!); or bring materials to create, decorate, and hold space. Check out the bloc pages for suggestions (remember, you need to be able to walk with whatever it is and bring it on the tube!), think about how the police might respond to what you’re carrying, and don’t bring things that could be construed (however wrongly) as a weapon. Read the legal briefing for more.

What to expect on the day

You will spend the day with one thousand others – some your closest friends, many you’ve never met before – who all believe that oil’s time is up, and it’s our job to give it the boot.

You might want to pair up with ‘buddy’ (or find one on the day) and agree to watch out for each other throughout the day. Keep close to your buddy and/or your affinity group, and stay in your bloc as we move through London.

We’ll be on the move throughout the day. Messages will be passed on by text message and from person to person. Although there are ten possible targets, at some point during the day we will all wind up together in one place to switch off oil. Get ready to occupy, blockade, build, reclaim…

This is a mass action to disrupt the oil industry. To do that successfully, we’re trying something new, and keeping the target under wraps – which aims to allow us to beat the police to our final destination, and create a space where people can take effective action.

With the target a mystery, there are some things that can be made clear in advance, and others that can’t. We know where we’re meeting, but not where we’ll end up. We know what we need to bring, but not exactly what it will be used for.

Expect the unexpected, and be prepared for it: sun, wind and rain; sitting-in and out-running; occupying and pushing; holding space and breaking boundaries.
